Summer Stuff

Most of the posts on my Facebook are about the end of the school year.  Teachers and kids are getting ready to wind down from early wake ups, grading papers, and homework.  Oh yes, and packing lunches!

Learning shouldn't stop during the summer.  Ever heard the old saying, "if you don't use it, you lose it"?  It's true.  Kids need to continue reading at least 15 minutes a day.  If your child had an average grade in math at the end of the school year, it's a sign that something was missed or there was a testing issue.  The fact is, if your child missed a concept in math, it will be a stumbling block in the future. Math is sequential and most concepts are used over and over as we progress.  Academic Avenue offers year-round tutoring, skill builders to use at home, and educational games to build fluency.

New this year is our Camp Brainiac: a fun class that highlights reading, writing, math, science, and arts & crafts.  We are offering our Kindergarten Readiness program again!  Reinforce those preschool skills to prepare them for Kindergarten.   I should have some dates available on our Daily Five & Daily Math workshops for teachers this week.  For more information on any of our programs go to www.academicave.com.

One of the posts I saw on Facebook attached an article well worth reading and passing on.  This applies to all parents.  Pay close attention to the warning signs.  Click here to read the article.
